Happy Father’s Day
Today America celebrates fatherhood. For me, it is a time to reflect on how much I love my children. I won’t be with them today but I know they love me. My mistakes have affected them and it is convenient to flog myself with this fact because it feeds the self-pity I use to entitle my destructive actions. So, today when I begin to feel sorry for myself for being separated from my children I recognize this emotion as coming from faulty core beliefs about who I am. I ask my Higher Power to direct my thinking towards someone I can help. I remember with gratitude the love I have for my children and the love they have for me. I remind myself that to be a positive influence in their lives I must be spiritually fit. I’m thankful they are happy and healthy. But I miss them and it hurts but that’s OK. I’ll live and so will they and our love will continue.
